Unit Summary
The first step in the planning process is to think as far out into the future as possible by identifying what is important to you. One way to do that is to think about what will you have liked to accomplish upon your retirement? Would you want to be a very successful person? a wealthy person? the most liked person? a powerful person? One with high academic status? a great family person? etc..
“When you reach for the stars you may not quite get one, but you won’t come up with a handful of mud either.” – Leo Burnett
Think about the areas that are most important to you and choose 3 characteristics that matter to you.
The first step that Vera does is to imagine she is at retirement age and tries to envisage what would she have wanted to have achieved by then. She finds that she doesn't care much about wealth but is keen on having been successful at creating a positive change in the world around her. She finds that her particular focus would be taking care of nature and her community.
