Hi, in this video we will learn what it takes to build the right team in your organization.
You never know what to expect in business and unless you have the right team in place, it would be very hard for a company to navigate the challenges and make use of the opportunities that arise.
To build your team, you need to think about 3 key considerations:
-
Hire right by making sure that you are getting people that are in line with your values, culture and are passionate about what you are doing.
-
Give opportunities for development by having your team members do job rotations, get put on special projects, pursue some side projects and be responsible for their learning.
-
Fire Fast when there is a mismatch between the individuals attitude and your objectives or strategy. Don’t let things linger so that it doesn’t spill over to others.
By following these 3 key considerations and continuously rewarding – even if it is a slap on the back – great behaviors and performance you will ensure that you have a cohesive team that is all rowing in the same direction.
Remember, your talent is your most important asset!
Ron is chartered with finding the best talent for the organization. The company is in a highly competitive space and needs to hire fast. Despite the fact that there is a need for filling up important posts, Ron has had previous experience that it’s better not to hire than to hire the wrong person that doesn’t fit within the culture. When someone is hired and doesn’t align to the company’s culture, they could distract others, cause loss of time and money in the organization. The faster such people are fired, the better.
To reach the right talent, Ron creates for candidates a tour of the company showing how employees enjoy an open work environment, a lot of job rotation and many opportunities for learning. He does however also state the key values and the very demanding environment that exists. Through a careful screening process and after observing how well the candidates could fit in the work environment, Ron then passes them on to hiring managers to assess them further.
“You know, as most entrepreneurs do, that a company is only as good as its people. The hard part is actually building the team that will embody your company’s culture and propel you forward.” Kathryn Minshew
