In this video, you will be introduced to some skills that can help improve your writing.
Are there ways to improve your writing skills? What are the most commonly used tips that actually yield better outcomes? It is important as a writer to upgrade your writing skills and learn from previously made mistakes and feedbacks.
Therefore, following these steps will help you produce a better piece.
Here are 2 ways to improve your essay:
-
Proofreading: Proofreading is one of the most important tips. To proofread you should always begin by reading your writings vocally; listening could help identify some errors that would only be noticed while reading out loud. Another tip is to let someone else read it, as well as reading the paper yourself after a period of time. That way, biases would cease to exist and a better identification of error would be in order.
-
Wordiness: You need to remember that the maximum word limit is 500 words. Therefore, wordiness is your greatest enemy. These are some tips to avoid wordiness:
-
Eliminate “fluff” language; words such as basically, truly, very, really, quite, etc.
-
Decrease prepositions and adjectives that are unnecessary. For example: “The company that is responsible for providing the material, which is called...” could be shortened to “The company responsible for providing the material...”
-
Avoid using passive voice: Since the essay speaks about your own dreams and what inspires you, you should be writing in first person.
